Small Haul, Big Style

Not so great a score on furniture last weekend, but one great project piece that'll hit the blog once it's finished. Did pick up this awesome monogrammed footlocker trunk with removable tray and keys, midcentury paella pan trio, olive mini sauce pot made in Yugoslavia, Pyrex tea infuser, box of rickrack and bias tape, 30's print apron, and, the jewel of the weekend, a white and green Singer Featherweight in cosmetically minty condition, with the case, instruction manual, and original receipt marked 1964. Taking her in tomorrow for a tune up, and then she'll be on eBay. The rest should be making their way on to Etsy in the next couple days.

Spotted! Same Glasses at Deluxa on Mad Men

I know I'm late to the party (I'm in the middle of season 1), but I am currently an official Mad Men convert. When Peggy was doing the twist towards the kinda jerky, but somehow mildly loveably jerky-boy, and he told her, "I don't like you like this," the deal was cinched and I was on board.

Anyhow, earlier in that very same episode, when Peggy gets her copy idea for lipstick approved and all the boys go to Don Draper's office to celebrate, low and behold what did I see!!!

lThat's right! My crystal silver-rimmed glasses!

$70 for a set of 16 glasses, in great condition, and they are beautiful beautiful glassware--clearly as the prop stylist at Mad Men can attest!

Eva Zeisel Hallcraft Caprice Finds

My collection is growing...






Found these Eva Zeisel Hallcraft pieces in "Caprice" (2 dinner plates, a luncheon plate, 2 bread plates, and 2 saucers--score!) and am in MCM heaven. The pattern is gorgeous, and the shapes are masterpieces. Organic and offset slightly, they have an intrinsic humanistic quality that makes using them, even for just holding a sandwich, special.

Just a couple detail shots around the store. There is such a quick turn over sometimes, and when a piece of furniture sells, it usually means a full recalibration of a large portion of the store. A sort of never ending exercise in merchandising, but lately, everything seems to have found a nice little harmony--that is, until something sells...but that's okay!

All of them are great, I'd especially recommend reading the recipe for Koshary, which made me really fall for him hard...its like he's right there coaching you in the kitchen. Anywho, break out your favorite vintage enamel cast pots and go for it! I photoed mine here, because since aquiring it, its become one of my favorite objects and always brightens me up when I see it.


Its virtually cookware porn, no? Just reads "Made in Denmark" on the bottom. Search "Denmark" and "enamel" on ebay for similar results, or "Dansk" which makes lots of similar stuffs.

Pyrex Love

I love it when the internet has answers! I've poked around eBay for the names of different Pyrex pieces, seeing whats out there, drooling over the classic "primary colors" set, which my mother has as it belonged to her mother:

But lo and behold when I wondered about how there must be a better way to identify my Pyrex in store, like duh, ask the internet! A quick search of "guide to vintage Pyrex" landed me on the great Pyrex Love website, with a great photo guide to patterns, FAQ section, and tons of other info. I learned a lot about the pieces I've got in store, and what I want to keep an eye out for. I'd highly recommend checking out their website with its cool articles about how to clean Pyrex, commonly mistaken Pyrex pieces, and other fun stuff. Some of my favorite patterns are "dandelion duet", this unnamed"floral", "spring blossom" (I [personally] have a set!), "starburst"--really there are just so many that are eye catching and covet worthy its hard to pick favorites, just go to the site and browse for yourself!

Here's what I've got in the store right now that's strictly Pyrex--I've also got lots of Fire King, Federal, Inland Glass, and GlasBake.

Covered casserole in "Floral Bubbles". Apparently on the website there is some confusion about the printing on the lid. With a specimen in hand here, I can confirm that yes, the flowers are printed on both sides of the glass! $16
