9031, Retro Clock Screensaver and Other Nostalgia

Just discovered 9031 via the Herman Miller Blog, and their especially cool retro time clock screen saver. Lots of other goodies too--quite possibly my most favorite new website since...well never mind. My favorite gems so far: plywood trashcan icon for Mac OS, the soon to be released font "No Problem", and photos like this.

In all, all the content, even and perhaps most notably, the user experience (early Mac icons, download links of scans of hard disks with handwritten labels or 90's Earthbound-esqe graphics, and much much more) it all completely smacks of a time of computer/Nintendo nostalgia that is book ended by the Oregon Trail in DOS and the reign of AOL--a good time for computers, graphics, and discovery, at the tip of the iceberg. Dive in, soak it up, and remember the early excitement of the internet.

Download the time clock here.

Have You Heard?

Polaroid has been adopted! On October 9th, the last batch of produced film passed its "use by" date, and it looked as if Polaroid lovers were going to be left high and dry. Luckily though, as many were hoping, the name and technology for the cameras is being licensed for production, and a group called The Impossible Project (totally worth reading up on these guys) will be producing film. It's quite and interesting story for what some consider an antiquated format while others consider precious. Read more here, here, and here.

Here's a few pics I pulled off the Flickr group, aptly named, "The Polaroid Pool":

Also, if you haven't seen Poladroid, check it out--we've got a bit of a wait until mid 2010. Here is a link to another post I did on Polaroids of plants, too. Lastly, we do have a couple vintage camera's in stock, including an instant film camera (that uses Polaroid film) that was produced for Tupperware and made by Kodak as a gift for their top Tupperware sellers. Super kitsch.

MyWiseBunny.com and Criagslist

As someone who spends way more time on Craigslist than I ever imagined in my wildest dreams, this site--MyWiseBunny.com--makes Craigslist much more user friendly and less of a wild west/jungle free for all of (mis?)information.

I haven't really trolled through the whole site yet, but going through the Brooklyn furniture section, it is amazing how it has a great thumbnail gallery with prices, and is listed by date. It even has expanded photo rollovers. For me, and for virtually all of my customers who've found me and shopped from me via Craigslist, using MyWiseBunny is going to be in the daily website visiting rotation.

Here is a screenshot of their thumbnail gallery for Brooklyn:

And lookie there! What a cute kids chair and desk set!
