This is old news for Facebook fans--er--scratch that, what do I call them... "like"-ers? You know who I mean. Anyhow, my refinished fuchsia vanity desk and stool were featured on the front page of Etsy. Word.

Small Haul, Big Style

Not so great a score on furniture last weekend, but one great project piece that'll hit the blog once it's finished. Did pick up this awesome monogrammed footlocker trunk with removable tray and keys, midcentury paella pan trio, olive mini sauce pot made in Yugoslavia, Pyrex tea infuser, box of rickrack and bias tape, 30's print apron, and, the jewel of the weekend, a white and green Singer Featherweight in cosmetically minty condition, with the case, instruction manual, and original receipt marked 1964. Taking her in tomorrow for a tune up, and then she'll be on eBay. The rest should be making their way on to Etsy in the next couple days.

Market Publique

For those of you who may be a fan on Facebook, you may remember some time ago when I shared a tip on the new vintage online market place Market Publique. In a round about way I ended up getting in contact with one of the founders, Pamela, who also runs the awesome blog.

In short, MP is alot like Etsy, but for vintage clothing hounds, way way better. There is room for hosting many more and much larger photos (without having to click to zoom in, and really, with clothing, you need more than just 5 pictures), a much more clothing-friendly layout, a way hipper aesthetic and logo (really Etsy? that's the best you can do on a logo?), and maybe the best part: selectivity of sellers. This means you don't have to sift through five thousand posts of some crazy lady trying to convince you that something that is butt-ugly isn't. No crappy photos, no faux Hong Kong "vintage", no 5 seasons old Target clothes. It's a big sigh of aesthetic relief for the vintage clothing shopper.

Lucky for us, we've been made members, joining the likes of NYC neighbors Amarcord, Boston's Artifaktori, along with MP's very own selections. I've only got a few items up, but many more soon to follow. Here's a photo of a belted leather coat that is a MP exclusive:

Official New Address, Start of Relaunch!

Whew! What a crazy long month, and it's not even the holidays yet. The good news though is that we've secured new location for Deluxa in East Williamsburg off the L at Morgan in the OfficeOps building on Thames Street.

If you're not familiar with the area, it is a bit debatable if this is still "technically" East Williamsburg, or Bushwick, and even some have nicknamed it "Morgantown" for the Morgan stop on the L train. Regardless, I'd describe the area as something like East-Village-meets-Soho-in-the-BK, with soaring industrial buildings, street level murals, great street fashion, and the feeling that something in the air is...happening. I love our area here in Carroll Gardens, but the something in the air here is maybe a bit more staid--not quite happening. There are also lots of new business opening, and it turns out more than a couple friends and acquaintances already call the area home.

In addition to powering down the store here (please come in and help me move what is left! lots of lovelies! at least 50% off almost everything--often more!), I'm starting to rev up our transition to internet based sales. While our final internet trajectory is still being debated (Etsy only? Etsy and direct sales? Direct sales only??? Look at those Three Potato Four people...HMMMMMmmmmm...Oy, and boy would I love to learn Flash and do something like that Supermarket Sarah)--for now, and for at first at least, furniture will be on Craigstlist and Ebay (listings to come), and then a stand alone Etsy stores for clothing and home. I designed/redesigned the store banners for the stores, and have decided the new deluxa design scheme will consist of our original "deluxa" typography logo, and Helvetica Thin, and in black and white as much as possible. Here we go...

Spotted! Same Glasses at Deluxa on Mad Men

UPDATE--THESE HAVE SOLD

I know I'm late to the party (I'm in the middle of season 1), but I am currently an official Mad Men convert. When Peggy was doing the twist towards the kinda jerky, but somehow mildly loveably jerky-boy, and he told her, "I don't like you like this," the deal was cinched and I was on board.

Anyhow, earlier in that very same episode, when Peggy gets her copy idea for lipstick approved and all the boys go to Don Draper's office to celebrate, low and behold what did I see!!!

lThat's right! My crystal silver-rimmed glasses!

$70 for a set of 16 glasses, in great condition, and they are beautiful beautiful glassware--clearly as the prop stylist at Mad Men can attest!

Vintage Banks

Although I'm pretty good about keeping my change in my change pouch in my purse--well, either there or in the bottom of my purse--the BF, not so much. Like the tooth fairy, he leaves quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies everywhere he goes. Whenever I find them, I get to say in my sing song voice, "Looks like the quarter fairy was here!" and then add the change to my morning coffee run change stash (which would be, as it should be, in my change pouch of my wallet).

Anywho, fairies aside, I was thinking maybe what we need is a fabulous bank for him to stash his change. Here are 3 that I found on Etsy that I marked as favorites for my shortlist:

The part of me that grew up in the 80's is leaning towards the triceratops. I also have a really strong feeling that the smell of the plastic in it will be worth the nostalgia alone. The house bank would be a good compromise for having to sell the Keystone dollhouse, but then again the silver piggy bank is a nice minimalist modernist piece, which isn't usually quite my thing, but could help to anchor all the contrastinc colors and textures I've got in my studio. Hmm...

Granny Loafers

I can't help it. I'm thinking of fall. Something about back to school, new trapper keepers, new pens, new clothes, the whole new start of the cycle was always so inspiring...

Which leads me to think about fall shoes, as I've nearly worn through a pair of thrifted Michael Kors rubberized wedges after wearing them nearly every day through the winter and spring. I'm thinking about going for this loafer granny style as my new go to, and I'm guessing the look will be big this fall.
