Furniture is on Craigslist!

I try and keep most of the furniture and higher priced items up on Craigslist and am pretty good about taking things down once they sell. I do my best with pics and with dimensions too, but am always available on email to discuss if you have any questions. So if you are in the area but don't get to the store much, check in often. All you have to do is search "Deluxa" and it brings up all our posts.

(Here's a little secret! Sometimes things are listed for less on CL than in the store, so if you mention you saw it there for less, I always go for the lower price--it does have to be a current listing though, so come and get it while the posts are still up!)

Great Finds from Colorado

Brand new vintage Gloria Vanderbilt size 7.5 cream boots. $65.

A.S. stainless candy dish with wood handle. $12.

No label floral sheer scarf with gold thread. $7.

Emerald Stoneware butter dish. $14.

New with tag vintage veggie dishtowel. $4.

Scoop these up while they last! Lots of other great housewares too. Great for last minute gifts!

A few fun blogs...

Kingdom of Style is amazing for fashion inspiration--Queen Marie and Queen Michelle are constantly dazzling with their passions and creations and latest obsessions. They've been one of my "must read" blogs for some time now, and never disappoint. Their creativity and knowledge runs so deep, and I'm often envious of their style. They are both DIY mavens, and often feature their latest vintage scores after some modifications.

Amazing, no?

There's also Modern Good Life, put out by a near and dear friend Kim. Already an amazing stylist, Kim's got such an eye for put together looks--be it interiors, fashion, or a great party spread. I especially like her recent post on how to throw a fondue party!

Lastly for the day, I'm absolutely addicted to the Free People Blog. While I do have some issues with the company, but the blog is so employee centrist, I'm willing to overlook. The fabulous people there exude creativity and romanticism and wit and charm. It must be coming out their ears and noses--glitter and applique flowers and lace trim.

Their desks are all intensly diverse hubs of inspirational ephemera, their designs always culling the best of craft and trend.

Did I mention they also started a hilarious talk show "Dog Talk"? The intro is amazing. Dog Talk. Dog Talk. Dogs. And talking.

Here is the latest episode:

How an Eames Shell Chair is Made

Such a great video. The music doesn't hurt any either.

In case you feel the impulse to buy a Herman Miller Eames Shell Chair, I do have two orange H Base in the store right now...

$130 each or $250 for the pair. Really good condition. Original vintage (not modern reproduction).

Amazing Pictures by Lorie Reilly

Trio of shoes

At long last we've got our pictures for our website! I have to say, they were totally worth the wait. 207 pictures in total, and each one better than the next. I'm so proud to get to share them, and am even so inspired myself to commit to dressing and living the vintage lifestyle. To me, these pictures are an ultimate affirmation that we can live our lives beautifully with what materials are at hand, and that consumption doesn't have to come newly minted from a factory, and that true style is what you make of it--not a competition for who copies the latest billboard.

Here we are!

Julia and Andrea of Penelope Rouge grab coffee at Naidres, around the corner from Deluxa. Hats, jacket, dresses, necklaces, shoes, Deluxa.

Deluxa's favorite cutie pie. Dress, hat, ornament, Deluxa.

Close up of jacket, belt, necklaces, wallet , and dress, all Deluxa.

This is our dear friend Meghan Halle. She's gorgeous and an amazingly talented singer.
More on her new CD later... Boots, dress, bag, belt, Deluxa.

Neighborhood fixture and Deluxa regular, Irene. Coat, dress, gloves, Deluxa.

This is but still even just a tiny fraction of the beautiful pics we have to share. All the pics were taken either in the store or within a few blocks around Carroll Gardens, and virtually everything in every photo came from the store. More to come soon!

We're in today's Daily News!

Today's Daily News mentioned Deluxa as one of Brookyn's best vintage stores in their article "The Ultimate in Re-Gifting" by Denise Romano.

From the section on Deluxa:

"Here, you can find tons of old-school housewares, like red tulip shakers for $12, vintage baby clothes, women's clutches, gloves, clothes and shoes and men's clothing, such as a wool Lacoste sweater for only $25.

Owner Kristen Stocks said the best selling items are the Christmas ornaments that go for about $6.

'People are coming around to the idea that second-hand is best,' she said adding that furniture is selling well too.

'This stuff is built to last,' she added. 'People are realizing that vintage is not a trendy thing, it is a necessity.'"

Thanks Denise!

Coming Tomorrow...

So I'm back from Colorado! Shame on me, not one picture of my grandmother's vintage white tree decorated in homemade felt ornaments or one shot of the amazing food. Among the festive highlights, were not one, but TWO different baked brie, broccli coleslaw, and a absolutely decadent chocolate cake by my brothers pastry chef girlfriend. Needless to say, I'm going to be eating pretty light for the next few days.

On another note, here is the tiniest teeniest weeniest sneak peak at our pictures for the new website...

I can hardly wait--I just know they are going to be amazing. Once they download from the FOUR DVDs on which they are.

We're off to Colorado tonight, so most likely no blogging from the road, but hopefully we'll come back with some vintage gems from the outer-Denver area!

Report on 3rd Ward's Handmade Holiday

The Handmade Holiday event was spectacular! A huge congrats goes out to Nikki of 3rd Ward for all her hard work in pulling off an amazing collection of crafters and for bringing such a huge turn out!

The day started at noon with Deluxa's vintage dress-up photo booth slammed from the start! My photographer Victor Jeffrieys II and I worked our tushes off styling and cajoling people into dress up. Some were (much!) easier than others, but in all the booth was hugely successful! Ladies in Jackie-O style, kids in fedora's and ray bans, guys in the girls clothes, adults reading salacious books in librarian glasses--everyone seemed to get into it, and Victor took some amazing shots, really capturing the festive atmosphere. Check out more of his pics from the day here. Sigmund Droid played some fun live music (they got a lot of sound out of a bass and drumkit!) Even Channel 12 showed up to get in on the action! The super tasty bloody mary's were a big hit too!

Also, I'd never been to 3rd Ward before, but what an amazing space for artists and creative types. Again, like yesterday's Brooklyn Kitchen post, 3rd Ward is an avant garde artists' co-op that invests in creating a more positive community, putting tools into people's hands that otherwise would be inaccesible. Member benefits include access to a photo studio, wood shop, metal shop, digital media lab, audio studio, classes, office space, and a community of like-minded individuals. Then they also have classes like how to make edible stationery, screen printing, and all kinds of sculpture--really a culture of empowerment. Even if you aren't a member, you can still check out their gallery, rent space on a per-project basis, attend events like movie screenings, or their recurring "Drink and Draw".

Anyhow back to the Handmade Holiday, again I was super impressed with Brooklyn Kitchen, and got to know my local table mates, Artikal, who designs devastatingly beautiful hats for all occasions (I've still got my heart set on one brown cloche, maybe Santa will read this?), and luckily I was also near our dear friends Agapantha, as well as (woo-hoo!) the LED hula hoops by ProdMod which were so cute to see little kids play with.
